Learning Outcomes of the course unitBy the end of the course, the students should be able to:
  1. Research, Present and Analyze the traditional techniques of Cypriot folk art through on site visits to the Cyprus Handicraft Centre, the Leventio Municipal Museum and the Cyprus Folk Art Museum.
  2. Participate in specialized workshops and discussions involving all students to maximize visual impact and difference in visual problem solving.
  3. Utilize unique ideas, materials and forms through research and analysis.
  4. Visualize and communicate ideas with conceptual thinking in mind.
  5. Participate in the written assignment presentation that involves all students to maximize visual impact and difference in visual problem solving.
  6. Analyze, explain and discuss the use of new materials and their applications in contemporary design products.
  7. Analyze, explain and discuss contemporary design products with references in traditional handicraft.
  8. Utilize unique ideas and sketch through a visual process.
  9. Present final research findings and ideas regarding product design proposals.
  10. Participate in specialized workshops in order to work more efficient for the production of the final product.
  11. Explain, defend, and initiate discussion and/or debate. Communicate visually.
  12. Participate in the final presentation of designs involving all students.
  13. Convince through attention to detail, structure, presentation level and professionalism.

Course ContentsThe subject deals with advanced, more complex problems in Product/ Object Design. Through the presentation and analysis of the techniques, the material uses and applications in Traditional Cypriot Handicraft the aim is to create and develop contemporary experimental products and object with the use of new advanced materials. A brief history of experimental products designed using tradition as inspiration or source will be presented. The course promotes the production of new products supported with specific concepts and ideas using traditional techniques in combination with new materials.
