Mr. Nicolas Lambouris

Short CV

Nicolas Lambouris is an Associate Professor in the Department of Arts & Communication at Frederick University and Lab Coordinator of the PFM [Photography. Film + Media. Lab] research lab. He currently teaches Concepts of New Media, Advanced Photographic Practices, Art Direction & Production, and Senior Project Thesis in the Department’s postgraduate and undergraduate programs. He holds an MA in Photography from the Kent Institute of Art & Design, University of Kent (UK), a BA in Studio Art and a BA in Media Studies from Queens College, City University of New York (USA). Lambouris is a founding member and President of the Board of Directors of the International Association of Photography & Theory [IAPT], a member of the International Council of Museums (ICOM), a member of the International Visual Sociology Association (IVSA), and a Research Associate at the Cultural Studies and Contemporary Arts Lab (CSCA Lab), European University Cyprus. He has also served as a member of the Board of Directors of the Cyprus Symphony Orchestra Foundation, and as a member of the Advisory Committee for the State Art Collection at the Department of Contemporary Culture, Deputy Ministry of Culture of Cyprus. Lambouris’ research interests include contemporary photographic practices, cultural landscape studies, visual sociology, archives & institutional contexts, media & technology, while his artistic practice engages with issues of cultural identities, the politics of representation, and historiography. His work—which includes photography, collage, installation, video, sound, and text—has been exhibited both locally and internationally. It is part of private and state art collections and has been published by IAPT Press, La Fabrica, Yard Press, and MUZA Eretz Museum Tel-Aviv Publications. Lambouris has presented extensively at conferences and artist talks on the interdisciplinary and critical study of photography and visual culture, and his writings have been published in the journals Photographies and Membrana. He has participated in residency and artistic programs at Barco Galeria Arquitectura – Las Cruces (CL), Koraï Project Space (CY), and ABR/CRASSH, University of Cambridge (UK).

Ο Νικόλας Λαμπούρης είναι Αναπληρωτής Καθηγητής στο Τμήμα Τεχνών & Επικοινωνίας του Πανεπιστημίου Frederick και Συντονιστής του ερευνητικού εργαστηρίου PFM [Photography. Film + Media. Lab]. Διδάσκει Concepts of New Media, Advanced Photographic Practices, Art Direction & Production και Senior Project Thesis στα προπτυχιακά και μεταπτυχιακά προγράμματα του Τμήματος. Κατέχει μεταπτυχιακό τίτλο (MA) στη Φωτογραφία από το Kent Institute of Art & Design, University of Kent (Ηνωμένο Βασίλειο), καθώς και πτυχίο (BA) στις Εικαστικές Τέχνες (Studio Art) και πτυχίο (BA) στις Σπουδές Μέσων (Media Studies) από το Queens College, City University of New York (ΗΠΑ). Είναι ιδρυτικό μέλος και Πρόεδρος του Διοικητικού Συμβουλίου της Διεθνούς Ένωσης Φωτογραφίας & Θεωρίας [IAPT], μέλος του Διεθνούς Συμβουλίου Μουσείων (ICOM), μέλος της Διεθνούς Ένωσης Οπτικής Κοινωνιολογίας (IVSA), και Επιστημονικός Συνεργάτης του Εργαστηρίου Πολιτισμικών Σπουδών και Σύγχρονης Τέχνης (CSCA Lab), στο Ευρωπαϊκό Πανεπιστήμιο Κύπρου. Έχει επίσης διατελέσει μέλος του Διοικητικού Συμβουλίου του Ιδρύματος Συμφωνικής Ορχήστρας Κύπρου, και μέλος της Συμβουλευτικής Επιτροπής-Κρατικής Συλλογής Τέχνης, του Τμήματος Σύγχρονου Πολιτισμού του Υφυπουργείου Πολιτισμού της Κύπρου. Τα ερευνητικά ενδιαφέροντα του επικεντρώνονται στις σύγχρονες φωτογραφικές πρακτικές, στο πολιτισμικό τοπίο, την οπτική κοινωνιολογία, τα αρχεία και αρχειακές πρακτικές, καθώς και την σχέση ήχου, εικόνας, βίντεο και τεχνολογίας, ενώ η καλλιτεχνική του πρακτική πραγματεύεται ζητήματα πολιτισμικής ταυτότητας (-ων), πολιτικές της αναπαράστασης και της ιστοριογραφίας.Το έργο του — το οποίο περιλαμβάνει φωτογραφία, κολάζ, εγκαταστάσεις, βίντεο, ήχο και κείμενα — έχει παρουσιαστεί σε τοπικό και διεθνές επίπεδο. Έργα του βρίσκονται σε ιδιωτικές και κρατικές συλλογές και έχουν δημοσιευθεί από τις εκδόσεις IAPT Press, La Fabrica, Yard Press και MUZA Eretz Museum Tel-Aviv Publications. Ο Λαμπούρης έχει παρουσιάσει εκτενώς σε ακαδημαϊκά & καλλιτεχνικά συνέδρια σχετικά με τη διεπιστημονική και κριτική μελέτη της φωτογραφίας και του οπτικού πολιτισμού, ενώ κείμενά του έχουν δημοσιευθεί στα επιστημονικά περιοδικά Photographies και Membrana. Έχει επίσης συμμετάσχει σε προγράμματα καλλιτεχνικής φιλοξενίας και καλλιτεχνικά πρότζεκτς στο Barco Galeria Arquitectura – Las Cruces (Χιλή), Koraï Project Space (Κύπρος) και ABR/CRASSH, University of Cambridge (Ηνωμένο Βασίλειο).
