Equipping students to address the evolving challenges of legal science
The Department of Law aims to provide students with a comprehensive and high-quality education, integrating them into what the legal science is all about: a structured body of knowledge that interprets the law as a set of rules governing people's lives within society.
A variety of teaching methods are used to introduce students to both the fundamental and specialized aspects of law and advocacy. The detailed curriculum is based on the belief that the objectives of a Department of Law are not strictly limited to making lawyers capable of performing before a court, but also achieve the integration of graduates in all productive sectors of the economy and the promotion of the general role of the legal science in further developing a mature society.
The Department’s faculty is comprised of distinguished academics and esteemed practitioners who instill a strong applied dimension to the Department.
Through its high-quality undergraduate and postgraduate programs, the Department equips students with all the tools necessary for a successful professional career and growth. With strong focus on the individual, it provides students with a comprehensive legal education, preparing them to fully address the evolving challenges and demands of legal science.
Outreach activities
The Department organizes numerous academic events to highlight new trends and discussions within the legal community, as well as in the broader society, to strengthen research areas and to further educate the students and legal professionals as well. Academic events are also organized in collaboration with reputable organizations.
Further, the Department has also taken on the co-organization of international conferences with universities and research centers abroad. In 2024, the Department of Law and the Society of Juridical and Administrative Sciences co-organized the international Conference on "Perspectives of Business Law in the third millennium". In 2022, the Department co-organized and hosted the acclaimed GIG-ARTS (Global Internet Governance Actors, Regulations, Transactions and Strategies) Conference, a European annual multidisciplinary academic venue to present and discuss developments in Global Internet Governance (GIG) and their implications in and beyond this field of research.
Engaged in research
Research is among the Department's top priorities. Members of the faculty are actively engaged in high-level and ongoing research activities, both funded and non-funded.
The Department, in collaboration with the Center of International and European Economic Law, participated in the EU-funded research program JUSTICE, focusing on human rights (Training for a European Area of Justice - TrEAJus). A wide range of actions and publications were carried out as part of this project.
The Department also received internal funding for the research project titled "The Impact of the COVID-19 Pandemic on Human Rights," which resulted in a publicly accessible international collective volume.
"Dimonassa": the Department's legal journal
Since 2019, the Department has been publishing the legal journal "Dimonassa," an annual publication that includes rich material from some of the many activities of the Department of Law and its members, as well as other legal collaborators of the Department. It covers topics from various branches of law, Human Rights, European Law, Public Law, as well as book reviews, studies, case law analyses, and legal opinions.
