The Foundation Program in the English Language, spanning two semesters, is designed to prepare international students for admission to Higher Education institutions by enhancing their language proficiency and passing any accredited English language examinations of High B1 level or Higher (CEFR).

The program focuses on developing students’ skills in listening, speaking, reading and writing, as well as building their academic language and communication skills required for successful study in a Higher Education Institution.

Program’s main objectives are to enable students to:

1. develop advanced reading skills by comprehending and analyzing moderately complex texts, such as articles, reports, and narratives;

2. enhance listening skills to understand the main ideas and specific details in extended spoken discourse, including discussions, interviews, and lectures;

3. refine writing skills to produce coherent and detailed texts, such as essays, reports, and formal letters, with accurate grammar and appropriate style;

4. practice advanced speaking skills by participating in discussions, expressing opinions, and
delivering presentations with clear pronunciation and fluency;

5. enrich vocabulary used in general and academic settings;

6. develop essential skills for academic and social communication;

7. enhance critical thinking and analytical skills to become confident in responding effectively in various contexts;

8. develop team-work skills in various academic scenarios;

9. develop the required skills for academic university studies;

10. build the essential skills to pass various external exams successfully to satisfy programs admissions English language requirements.

Upon completion of the foundation program, students are expected to:

1. use the English language both orally and in writing with accuracy;

2. identify and develop the structure of the language in various contexts;

3. use structural patterns within academic and professional communication;

4. interpret written material of both general and academic contexts;

5. analyze and interpret texts through the understanding of abstract ideas and arguments of various texts;

6. compose clear and coherent written word of various forms;

7. show ability to analyze complex topics and develop well-reasoned arguments through various writing genres;

8. demonstrate enhanced critical thinking and analytical skills;

9. cultivate speaking techniques for communication in various settings;

10. demonstrate listening comprehension skills by understanding complex spoken English, by taking detailed and organized notes;

11. articulate clearly with excellent pronunciation and natural intonation;

12. analyze information provided in graphs, charts and diagrams;

13. paraphrase and summarize specific forms of written communication;

14. debate and discuss various issues confidently;

15. employ skills to present academic and other such topics.

Students are required to have a Certificate of English Language Proficiency at least equivalent to low B1 level of any specific examination and grade approved by the Council of Ministers.

COMMON EUROPEAN FRAMEWORK OF REFERENCE FOR LANGUAGES (CEFR) _ B1

Prospective students are expected to submit their application and all relevant supporting documents to the Admissions Office of the university.

At the end of the application deadline for the program, the Center of Languages evaluates prospective students based on the above requirements. The decisions of the Center of Languages are announced by email or otherwise to all candidates.

Upon the completion of each semester, students, apart from the separated individual assessment in each module, will be required to pass a comprehensive final exam as the modules are not considered as separate subjects but as components of comprehensive instruction aiming at an effective and holistic acquisition of the language.
