The Program facilitates learning across baseline subjects of preschool education and includes child development and learning theory, as well as method courses in both pedagogy and curricular approaches. In addition, it provides courses that address knowledge of the pedagogy involved in teaching young children literacy, mathematics, health and social studies, science, intercultural education and the arts, and it facilitates learning across the content areas for diverse groups of children. The Program constitutes a balance between the academic and the practical directions. It prepares its graduates for direct employment as pre-primary school teachers and lays the foundation for graduate studies in the field of education.

  1. Describe and evaluate a wide range of teaching models and approaches such as collaborative learning, exploratory learning, problem solving, inquiry, metacognitive processes and differentiation of instruction in pre-primary education.
  2. Analyze ways of effective cultivation of oral speech and phonological awareness, language structure, reading, and writing according to contemporary linguistic and pedagogical perceptions and develop relevant activities for use in the pre-primary classroom.
  3. Compare and contrast theories and models of health, such as the biomedical, social and psychosocial models and theories of behaviour change and apply the knowledge to promote health education in pre-primary schools.
  4. Demonstrate awareness of the major theoretical perspectives in the study of child development and developmental psychology, such as the biological, psychoanalytic, cognitive-developmental, behavioural theories and identify ways that the teacher can promote the physical, cognitive, language, personality, social and emotional development of children in the pre-primary classroom.
  5. Explain the factors that contribute to efficiency in pre-primary education and recognize the role of the school director/leader in the administration and management of a pre-primary educational organization.
  6. Explain the stages of the cognitive development of the mathematical thinking and describe the consequences of the different thinking and learning styles in the teaching and learning process and design teaching plans for different mathematical concepts.
  7. Demonstrate competency in art, drama and music education through identifying and applying the knowledge of different ways of artistic expression, drama and musical skills that children should develop in pre-primary school settings.
  8. Describe, select and apply methods to promote movement development in pre-primary level children while developing positive attitudes toward physical education.
  9. Develop lesson plans for all the subjects of the curriculum and apply them in preschool classroom settings through the usage of suitable teaching, learning and assessment strategies, while creating a climate conducive to learning by responding appropriately to the diverse needs of the learners.
The graduates of the Program have the knowledge and skills required to be employed as pre-primary school teachers. They fulfil the requirements for employment in the public or private sector as pre-primary teachers. They can also be employed in the industry in areas related to pre-school education and pre-school children care and minding.

Specific Admission Requirements
There are no specific admission requirements for this Program. Candidates can be admitted to the Program only if they satisfy the general admission requirements of the University.

Recognition of Prior Learning
There are no specific arrangements for recognition of prior learning for this Program. Candidates can be granted transfer credits according to the general arrangements for recognition of prior learning of the University.

Examination Regulations, Assessment and Grading
There are no specific examination regulations, assessment and grading methods employed by this Program. The examination regulations, assessment methods and grading system for this Program are the same as the relevant general university regulations.

Graduation Requirements
Students are eligible for graduation after successfully completing 240 ECTS credits in the courses listed in the Program Structure.
Furthermore, a student can graduate only if their CGPA is greater or equal to 5.00 out of 10.00. Graduating students with a CGPA less than 5.00 might have to take extra courses or repeat a number of courses in order to improve their grades.

Access to Further Studies
The graduates of the Program have access to graduate studies (2nd and 3rd Cycle) in disciplines related with the discipline of education.
