Maria Hadjitofi Demetriou has been the Coordinator of the Centre of Languages at Frederick University since 2008. She was employed as an instructor of English language at Frederick Institute of Technology in 1985 and has been teaching English since then. She coordinates and supervises the activities of the Centre of Languages and teaches English language courses to first and second year students. She acquired her BA in English Language and Literature from the National and Capodistirian University of Athens in 1982. In 1983, she attended a course in Teaching English as a foreign language offered by the British Council and in 1984 she was awarded her Med degree in Guidance and Counselling from the West Georgia College, University of Georgia, USA, with honours. She has been a member of the Phi kappa Phi Society for academic excellence (GPA:4.0) and has participated in several professional seminars on new teaching trends and methodologies. Having worked for the Frederick for almost 30 years, she served various posts of the organisation such as the Coordinator of the American system of study, the Head of the English Department and programmer of the institute’s timetable. She has participated in many committees and other activities of the Institute. As the Coordinator of the Centre of Languages, she works for the smooth and appropriate operation of the Centre and teaches basic and intermediate level courses to Cypriot and international students.
