Byron Ioannou is an Associate Professor of the Department of Architecture, School of Engineering, at Frederick University, and lead of the Urban Planning and Development Unit. His research and teaching domain focuses on Urban Planning & Design and Sustainable Built Environment. He studied Architecture (Dip. Eng.) and Urban & Regional Planning (MSc and Ph.D.) at the National Technical University of Athens. He has also studied Planning Law (PG Cert) at Leeds Beckett University. During his early career, he worked as a teaching and research staff in three Greek Universities, being also a visiting scholar in institutions in Europe, the Mediterranean, and Australia. He has an extended professional and research experience in applied planning and development issues, more recently in housing, sustainable urban mobility, density and sprawl, public space, urban green, planning law, and inclusive settlements. His portfolio includes award-winning proposals dealing with waterfront regeneration, public space design, and master planning. He is a registered architect and planner at ETEK (CY), TEE (GR), and the Royal Institute of Town Planners (UK). Byron Ioannou is an active member of national and European councils, boards, and networks for climate adaptation and resilient city design.
