Frederick University and Pallouriotissa Lyceum Join Forces to Create “The Greenhouse of Dreams”

A creative collaboration between Frederick University and Pallouriotissa Lyceum is underway, aiming to create “The Greenhouse of Dreams”, a space that will bring together architectural design, experiential learning, and experimentation.

In October 2025, Professor Panayiotis Touliatos of the Department of Architecture at Frederick University delivered a lecture to students at Pallouriotissa Lyceum, attended by students from the University’s Department of Architecture. The lecture was entitled “The Human Creative and Constructive Response to the Evolving Greenhouse Effect: The Role of the Phenomenon in Comparison with the Human-Made Greenhouse Structure.” The visit was prompted by the school students’ desire to design and build their own greenhouse on the school grounds.

During the visit, the group toured potential locations on the school premises where the greenhouse could be built. The two educational institutions also agreed to collaborate on a range of activities, including delivering lessons for the school students and organising visits to the Department of Architecture, where they would participate in experiments using the Department’s tilting experimental table. The collaboration also involves the joint study and development of the project, encouraging the exchange of knowledge, ideas, and creative approaches.

Following the visit, Architecture students developed architectural proposals for the greenhouse as part of their coursework. The project was designed to create a living learning laboratory, where school students could observe, experiment, and discover through hands-on activities. The university students were supervised by Professor Panayiotis Touliatos and Dr Marios Pelekanos, as part of the course through which the project was undertaken. The proposals were developed in collaboration with the school’s students and Mr George Mylonas, a Mathematics teacher at Pallouriotissa Lyceum.

In the coming period, the architectural proposals developed by the University’s students in collaboration with the school students will be presented at Pallouriotissa Lyceum. Following the presentation, one proposal will be selected to serve as the basis for the construction of “The Greenhouse of Dreams.”

This initiative highlights the value of collaboration between the university and school communities, giving young people the opportunity to take an active role in a project that connects knowledge with creativity and practical application.

We look forward to seeing “The Greenhouse of Dreams” take shape and become a space for inspiration, exploration, and learning for the entire school community!
