In Cyprus there is a significant shortage of specialized health professionals with MSc Specialization in the field of Health. The promotion of the implementation of the General Health System by the Ministry of Health and the specificity of this Program that is the first MSc in Cyprus focusing on Advanced Care directions, in Community Health Care and a second in Emergency Health Care will lead to attracting new candidates.
The graduates of the "Advanced Health Care" MSc Program are employed in the whole range of Health Care structures such as rural clinics, health centers, private and public home care settings and elderly care settings as well as in emergency departments. Graduates can also work in autonomous clinics - hospitals, in large business units such as factories or schools. Those who specialize in Emergency Health Care, in relation to their basic degree, can staff secondary and tertiary hospitals in surgical departments, plastic surgery departments, burn units, ICU. Even in combination with their clinical experience, they can work in health care and/or pharmaceutical companies as specialists in acute trauma and ostomy (wound specialist, tissue viability nurse, stoma therapist).
Most of the students in our program are nursing graduates and already work as nurses, in both the public and private sector, making use of their basic degree.
It is worth noting that our graduates, upon completion of their studies and obtaining the postgraduate degree, the institutions in which they work utilize them and assign them specialized tasks corresponding to their postgraduate studies. A typical example is the decision of the Ministry of Health of Cyprus to create in 2018 at the Nicosia General Hospital a scientific nursing team for recording, evaluating and monitoring patients with drowsiness, with all the team members being graduates of this MSc Program.
Today, the Ministry of Health announced plans to gradually implement this pilot program in all public hospitals, with the academic staff of this program contributing through a memorandum of cooperation signed between the School of Health Sciences at Frederick University and the Department of Nursing of Cyprus.
Admission to the MSc in Advanced Health Care is based on a rigorous and multidimensional evaluation process, ensuring that all candidates possess the academic background, professional competencies, and motivation required to successfully engage with the programme’s advanced curriculum.
