Frederick Research Center: Meeting with Deputy Ministers of Culture and Tourism for the EnterCY

A meeting was held with Deputy Minister of Culture, Dr. Vasiliki Kassianidou, and Deputy Minister of Tourism, Mr. Kostas Koumis, attended by the Director of Frederick Research Center (FRC), Mr. Alexis Onoufriou, Dr. Andreas Constantinides, and Dr. Harris Papadopoulos.

EnterCY is an innovative platform and mobile application that enhances the tourist experience through cutting-edge technologies. The project aims to promote alternative forms of tourism by informing visitors about the cultural heritage and natural wealth of Cyprus. The project's main innovation lies in the combination of various cutting-edge technologies, such as innovative augmentations of cultural heritage sites, 360 Virtual Reality Explorations, audio guides and more.

During the meeting held on December 14th at the Ministry of Tourism, Dr. Andreas Constantinides, alongside the Acting Permanent Secretaries and a team of executives from both ministries, presented the EnterCY project and delved into its content. Dr. Constantinides, Director of the Mobile Devices Laboratory (MDL) and Associate Professor at Frederick University's School of Engineering, highlighted the project's functional capabilities to showcase and promote Cyprus. The platform and application leverage cutting-edge technologies, providing visitors with a unique experience of Cyprus before, during, and after their journey.

Acknowledging the project's value and the efforts put into its implementation, the Deputy Minister of Culture and the Deputy Minister of Tourism engaged in discussions on ways to further enhance, enrich, and promote EnterCY. Specific topics included exploring the potential development of additional tools to create a central digital platform that caters to the needs and strategic goals of both ministries, as well as meeting the expectations of visitors to Cyprus and its residents. As a concluding agreement, there will be an evaluation of the project data, with a follow-up meeting scheduled for the beginning of the new year to propose ways to further advance EnterCY.

Partners in the EnterCY project are the Ministry of Tourism and the Department of Antiquities.

Representing Frederick Research Center at the meeting were Mr. Alexis Onoufriou, Director of the FRC, Dr. Harris Papadopoulos, Coordinator of the COIN (Computational Intelligence Research Lab) Research Unit and Assistant Professor in the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering, and Dr. Constantinides.

The EnterCY project was successfully completed in April 2023, and its implementation was made possible with co-funding from the European Union's structural funds and the Republic of Cyprus, under the frame of the "Integrated Projects" program of the Research & Innovation Foundation.
