Discussion on Limassol's traffic congestion to be held at Frederick University, Limassol
The Department of Maritime Transport and Commerce and the Department of Architecture at Frederick University are co-organizing a public discussion on traffic congestion and beach access, two highly pressing issues for the coastal city of Limassol.
The discussion will be held on Friday, November 7, 2025, from 17:30 to 20:00 at Frederick University, in Limassol (18, Marios Agathaggelou str., Ayios Georgios Havouzas)
The traffic congestion in Limassol leads to time wasted in the streets, pollution and stress that directly affect the quality of life of every citizen. At the same time, the limited and often commercialized access to the beaches deprives citizens of the right to freely enjoy the sea and causes new pressures on the city's road network. Citizens deserve better mobility, a healthy environment and truly free access to their city’s coast; they deserve an inclusive city, which will offer better quality of life.
The discussion brings together representatives of relevant bodies, decision makers, experts and active citizens, with the aim to present these key issues and challenges, discuss alternative approaches and present projects that are already underway or planned, offering a comprehensive view of the solutions being developed.
The Mayor of Limassol, Yiannis Armeftis, and the President of the Limassol District Local Government Organization, Yiannis Tsoulouftas, will participate in the two discussion panels.
Also participating will be Member of the House of Representatives Fotini Tsiridou, a member of the Standing Committee on Transport, Communications, and Works; Evi Anayiotou, Head of the Sustainable Mobility Unit of the Department of Public Works at the Ministry of Transport, Communications, and Works; and academics Professor Byron Ioannou, Head of the Department of Architecture at Frederick University, and Dr. Loukas Demetriou, Transport Engineer and member of the academic staff at the University of Cyprus.
The panel on “Traffic Congestion in Limassol” will be moderated by Dr. Angelos Menelaou, Head of the Department of Maritime Transport and Commerce at Frederick University, while the panel on “Beach Access and Operations” will be moderated by Dr. Yiannis Voudouris, Assistant Professor in the same department.
