The Cyprus Rectors’ Conference has announced a Call for Abstracts for the 3rd Doctoral Colloquium taking place on Saturday, April 13, 2024, at the University of Cyprus. The Colloquium provides an opportunity for doctoral students to present their work in progress, engage with other doctoral students, and receive feedback from fellow students, as well as from faculty members and visiting scholars.

Students will be able to exchange knowledge, experiences, best practices, advice and constructive feedback. The Colloquium will facilitate students to expand their network with other students and experienced scholars and to possibly kick-start collaborations for publications. In addition, University faculty members can share their knowledge on doctoral research and offer useful insights on successfully completing a PhD.

The Colloquium will take place at the University of Cyprus and participation is free.

Doctoral students may submit their abstract in Greek or English. Authors with an accepted abstract will be presenting their research through a fifteen-minute-presentation, in the same language as their submitted abstract.

The 3rd Doctoral Colloquium provides an excellent platform for PhD students to present their research findings and engage in the exchange of scientific ideas with peers and academic faculty from all universities in Cyprus. Scientific success is based on scientific findings but also rests on the ability and motivation of researchers in presenting and disseminating these findings in their chosen field of expertise. Receiving feedback on scientific work as well as creating and expanding collaborations are also paramount for success.

If you are a PhD student, you are strongly encouraged to participate in this event which can enrich your academic and professional skills and further fuel your passion for making significant contributions to research and, in extent, to society.

Με την επιστροφή στο Πανεπιστήμιο, και έπειτα από σχετικές συστάσεις του Υπουργείου Υγείας, προτρέπουμε την κοινότητά μας να λάβει προληπτικά μέτρα προστασίας από τη νόσο COVID-19 και άλλους αναπνευστικούς ιούς.

Τα μέτρα προστασίας που συστήνονται, περιλαμβάνουν:

1. Τακτικό και σχολαστικό πλύσιμο των χεριών με σαπούνι και νερό ή χρήση αλκοολούχου διαλύματος.
2. Αποφεύγετε να αγγίζετε το πρόσωπο και συγκεκριμένα τα μάτια, τη μύτη και το στόμα (πύλες εισόδου των ιών στον οργανισμό) στις περιπτώσεις που δεν έχετε πλύνει προηγουμένως τα χέρια σας.
3. Χρησιμοποιήστε μάσκα όταν βρίσκεστε σε κλειστούς χώρους (αίθουσες διδασκαλίας, γραφεία, διαδρόμους, σκάλες κα).
4. Εάν παρουσιάζετε συμπτώματα λοίμωξης αναπνευστικού, αυτοπεριοριστείτε και παραμείνετε στο σπίτι για τουλάχιστον 24 ώρες μετά από την υποχώρηση τους, ακόμα και εάν το τεστ σας για COVID-19 είναι αρνητικό καθώς υπάρχει έξαρση και σε άλλες ιογενείς λοιμώξεις.
5. Εάν παρουσιάζετε συμπτώματα λοίμωξης αναπνευστικού (βήχα, φτέρνισμα), καλύπτετε το στόμα και τη μύτη με χαρτομάντιλο ή με την εσωτερική περιοχή του αγκώνα. Επίσης εφαρμόστε μετά το φτέρνισμα ή τον βήχα υγιεινή των χεριών με σαπούνι και νερό, ή κάντε χρήση αλκοολούχου διαλύματος.
6. Πραγματοποιείτε καλό και τακτικό αερισμό των αιθουσών διδασκαλίας, γραφείων και άλλων κλειστών χώρων του Πανεπιστημίου.
7. Εφαρμόζετε τακτική καθαριότητα και απολύμανση επιφανειών καθώς και αντικειμένων που πιθανόν να έχουν επιμολυνθεί από μικροοργανισμούς.
8. Εάν αισθάνεστε οποιαδήποτε συμπτώματα ασθένειας, αποφύγετε την επαφή με άλλα άτομα και συμβουλευτείτε γιατρό.
9. Συστήνεται προληπτικά η διενέργεια εξετάσεων για COVID-19 σε κάποιο φαρμακείο, χημείο, εργαστήριο ή με self-test πριν την επιστροφή στο Πανεπιστήμιο κυρίως σε άτομα που έχουν συμπτώματα καταρροής, βήχα, πυρετού ή αδυναμίας.
10. Αυτοπεριοριστείτε από άλλα άτομα για τουλάχιστον 5 ημέρες σε περίπτωση θετικού αποτελέσματος για τη νόσο COVID-19.

Για οποιοδήποτε θέμα / περίπτωση δεν περιλαμβάνεται στη σχετική σύσταση να γίνεται επικοινωνία με το Γραφείο Ασφάλειας & Υγείας του Πανεπιστημίου (τηλέφωνο 22394394 - εσωτ.195, email: health-safety@frederick.ac.cy) του Πανεπιστημίου.

We welcome everyone back to our University after the Christmas break and urge our students and staff to follow a number of preventive measures to protect our University community from Covid-19 and other respiratory viruses.

The recommended preventive measures include:

1. Regular and thorough handwashing with soap and water or with the use of an alcohol-based solution.
2. Avoid touching your face, especially the eyes, nose, and mouth (entry points for viruses into the body) when your hands are not previously washed.
3. Use a mask when in enclosed spaces (lecture halls, offices, corridors, stairs, etc.).
4. If you experience respiratory infection symptoms, limit yourself and stay at home for at least 24 hours after their resolution, even if your COVID-19 test is negative, as there is an increase in other viral infections.
5. If you have respiratory infection symptoms (coughing, sneezing), cover your mouth and nose with a tissue or the inner part of your elbow. Also, practice hand hygiene with soap and water or use an alcohol-based solution after sneezing or coughing.
6. Ensure good and regular ventilation of classrooms, offices, and other enclosed spaces at the University.
7. Apply regular cleaning and disinfection of surfaces as well as objects that may be contaminated by microorganisms.
8. If you feel any symptoms of illness, avoid contact with other people and consult a doctor.
9. It is recommended as a preventive measure to perform COVID-19 tests at a pharmacy, clinic, laboratory, or with a self-test before returning to the University, especially for individuals experiencing symptoms such as a runny nose, cough, fever, or weakness.
10. Self-isolate from other people for at least 5 days in case of a positive result for COVID-19.
